$2.5 million initiative for Digital Medical Records
(Little Rock, Ark.) – September 26, 2013 – McGehee Hospital has selected Mainstream Technologies of Little Rock as its IT consultant to create and implement an IT plan in order to comply with the national mandate for the widespread adoption and use of digital medical records by health care providers. This Electronic Health Record (EHR) mandate to migrate health care providers to EHR technology includes Medicare and Medicaid incentives and reimbursement, as well as the transition to new standards for more secure claims transmissions.
When completed, the new digital medical records system will benefit patients and family members by providing better coordination of care because health records can be shared quickly and more easily among various health care providers. It should also empower patients through the convenient and secure sharing of their records over the Internet with family members.
John Heard, CEO of McGehee Hospital adds: “We relied on Mainstream Technologies for small-scale IT support in the past. So when it came time to hire an IT consultant for this important, large-scale digital medical records initiative, reaching out to Mainstream was a natural first step. We expect the same quality solutions and customer service we have always received from Mainstream.”
Mainstream’s role in this initiative includes specifying the hardware and software infrastructure required, as well as power, security and communication needs of the new facility. Mainstream will coordinate and manage the procurement of software and hardware infrastructure to include new servers, storage, disaster recovery and security software. The IT firm will also be coordinating the implementation of the wiring, cameras, fire protection and EHR systems in the next phase of the digital medical records project.
According to Mark McClelland, VP of IT, “Mainstream is extremely proud of our 5 year relationship with McGehee Hospital and we are very comfortable with their environment and the scope of this project. The senior engineer we chose to guide the implementation has strategic knowledge of the healthcare industry as a former hospital Director of IT. The benefits of his experience are immeasurable and the confidence in the success of the project is high.”
